Deep Muscle Stimulator (DMS)

Deep Muscle Stimulator

Deep Muscle StimulatorWe are proud to be two of just a handful of health & wellness practitioners in the state of Texas to be incorporating the DMS (Deep Muscle Stimulator) into our practice.

What Is The DMS (Deep Muscle Stimulator)?

The DMS is an FDA-approved medical device. It is a vibrational massage tool that delivers kinetic forms of percussive and concussive vibration to the tissue to which it is applied. It does not deliver an electrical stimulation, but rather a deep vibration that, in our skilled hands, quickly and comfortably dissolves stubborn myofascial trigger points; increases circulation; and induces thixotropy (the transformation of fascial tissue from a solid to a gel state), thereby facilitating myofascial restructuring.

How Does It Work?

The DMS differs from the vibrational devices that other practitioners may use in a number of ways. As mentioned previously, The DMS is an FDA-approved medical device. This means that the DMS has been subject to clinical trials, has been proven effective in those trials, and has obtained FDA approval. The DMS also differs from consumer versions of vibrational massage devices in that it delivers kinetic forms of percussive and concussive vibration at an unparalleled rate of 2,200 rpm (revolutions per minute). The DMS was also designed by a doctor, not an engineer. Dr. Jake Pivaroff, D.C., created the DMS for use with his own patients. Therefore, the DMS has been designed and fine-tuned to provide the ultimate clinical effectiveness in settings including physical therapy offices, chiropractic clinics, hospital rehabilitation centers, sports trainers’ facilities, and clinical massage therapists’ clinics. In our opinion, no other device on the market matches the effectiveness of the DMS.

Muscle pain can stem from various conditions, including, but not limited to:  myofascial trigger points, strain, lactic acid build up, and scar tissue. The DMS uses kinetic forms of percussive and concussive mechanical vibrations that reach deep into the muscle tissue to stimulate proprioceptive functions.

Deep Muscle StimulatorThe unmatched rate of vibration that the DMS provides delivers the following benefits to clients: increased circulation; reduced pain; faster post-injury rehabilitation; increased lymphatic flow; the resolution of muscular scar tissue; reduced lactic acid build up; tissue regeneration; and soft tissue release.

The DMS also allows us to concentrate its vibration on general or local muscle spasms. It increases muscle metabolism and increases the lactic acid cycle, which in turn relieves pain. The DMS can be used in the effective management of acute and chronic pain, including, but not exclusive to: headaches, sciatica, TMJ, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, bursitis, edema, myofascial pain, and frozen joints.

Clinical Studies With Deep Muscle Stimulator

Case Study from Human Kinetics, published in the November 2005 issue of Athletic Therapy Today (PDF – 112 KB)

The Deep Muscle Stimulator is known to increase the circulation of blood and the flow of lymph. The direct mechanical effect of rhythmical pressure and movement employed by the DMS can dramatically increase the rate of blood flow. Furthermore, the stimulation of nerve receptors causes the blood vessels to dilate, which also facilitates blood flow.

Use of the DMS can also be helpful in facilitating recovery from soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. This is possible because the growth and repair of tissue are accelerated by the efficient circulation that the DMS delivers to the injured areas.

The incorporation of the DMS into your massage session can help loosen contracted, shortened muscles and can stimulate weak, flaccid muscles. This muscle "balancing" can help improve dysfunctional posture and promote more efficient movement. The DMS also provides a gentle stretching action to both the muscles and connective tissues that surround and support the muscles and many other structures, which helps keep these tissues elastic.

If you are interested in a DMS session, please select the "Clinical Massage Session" from our service menu. Provided that the use of the DMS is not contraindicated in your case, we will be happy to incorporate it into your session.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions that you may have regarding the DMS (Deep Muscle Stimulator).

Here's What A Few Of Our Clients Have To Say:

Untied Knots
5 Star Review
12/31/2014

Leeann A. says: I have endured hip pain for years, possibly from a yoga injury or continued repetition of a poorly held posture. Susan explained the knotting problem with follow up stretches to keep my muscles unknotted. Her deep and thorough massage focused on my issue. She used a machine (the jack hammer) that really got in deep and worked out my gluts. I loved it! she is also very arts & crafty, so the space is tastefully filled with some of her trinkets. I even found handmade Valentines cards there! *

Heals Every Time.
5 Star Review

Rachel V. says: Susan knows how to heal and prevent injuries. Even though the "tool" she sometimes uses can be uncomfortable, the results are amazing. Since most of my massages are trigger point I go in with the expectation that it's not necessarily going to be fun, but Susan really knows how to put you at ease and make this type of massage as painless as it can possibly be. She is awesome and really knows what she is doing. To top it off, she's pleasant, caring and provides excellent customer service. You can't go wrong working with her. *

Trigger Point Therapy
5 Star Review
7/31/2013

Stacey S. says: I came in with a pain between my left scapula and my spinal cord. I probably hurt the area by over exercising. Susan is amazing! She massaged the area and also used a device that helped brake free excess toxins. I left with no pain in my shoulder and I am very happy with the results. I would definitely recommend her to anybody! Thanks Susan. *
